A 30-foot-extra-wide RiverWalk perfect for biking, jogging and fishing will welcome visitors this spring as the Conservancy prepares to open the first phase of the west riverfront at 1801 West Jefferson. Three 20-foot-wide pathways leading to the riverfront will provide the neighborhoods from across Jefferson Avenue and Fort Street with convenient access to this much-anticipated 20-acre property.
Features of the property include a stainless steel railing, benches, new lighting, security call boxes, waste receptacles and recycling containers. While visitors to the property will have access to the RiverWalk this spring, the areas north of the RiverWalk will need time for the grass to mature, which will occur this growing season. Wide-open areas will be available next year for picnics, pick-up games of soccer, baseball and football and other outdoor activities.
Ideas are currently being discussed for a late-summer community-wide celebration in August or September to commemorate the opening of the west riverfront.
