Campbell Terrace Opens on Dequindre Cut

December 8, 2016 [Detroit] - The Detroit RiverFront Conservancy and the McGregor Fund celebrated the opening of the C. David Campbell Memorial Terrace on Thursday, October 13 with an event that drew more than 200 guests.
The event was attended by Conservancy Board members, McGregor Fund staff and Trustees, friends and colleagues of David, as well as several of his family members. A jazz ensemble provided music, and during the strolling reception, guests enjoyed tasting some of David’s favorite beverages and desserts.
The Campbell Terrace is a small-scale outdoor performance space that features a covered stage and tiered concrete seat walls for spectators. It is located on the Dequindre Cut at the base of the Lafayette Street ramp between Orleans and St. Aubin.
A brief program featured remarks by Matt Cullen and Mark Wallace representing the Conservancy, while Kate Levin Markel and Reuben Munday spoke on behalf of the McGregor Fund. David’s wife Susan also spoke and then unveiled a stainless steel sign above the stage that bears David’s name.
The Terrace was commissioned by a $1 million gift from the Fund to honor the legacy of David, its former president, who passed away in 2014. Campbell was also a founding member of the Conservancy’s Board.
Leaders from both the Fund and the Conservancy expect that the Terrace will become a popular destination for impromptu performances by members of the community or for scheduled programs and special events.
