Work continued along the half-mile extension of the Dequindre Cut throughout the winter with the reconstruction of the Wilkins Street Bridge. To date, concrete foundation walls and precast units have been set, and waterproofing and grouting will follow as the weather improves.
Soon, the asphalt walkway will be placed, the fencing will be installed along the path and the construction of the Wilkins Plaza will be completed.
The Dequindre Cut northward extension is expected to welcome its first visitors late this summer. The Conservancy looks forward to partnering with Eastern Market and Greening of Detroit to implement programming along this new stretch of greenway when it opens.
