GM River Days Returns This Weekend

June 18, 2015 [DETROIT] -Metro Detroit’s unofficial kickoff to summer, GM River Days presented by Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort, returns this weekend, June 19-21.
The ninth annual GM River Days promises to be the best one yet. There are an incredible mix of crowd-pleasing favorites returning and all-new components that are sure to wow the crowds.
New this year will be an air show Saturday and Sunday at 4 p.m., an expanded Kids Zone presented by Flagstar Bank, and two zip lines that will take riders on a thrilling ride over Milliken State Park and Harbor.
Of course, for many attendees of GM River Days, the musical lineup is the highlight of the weekend, and this year’s entertainers will not disappoint.
National music acts include:
Friday, June 19 (BIKE NIGHT) – Paul Rodgers (Bad Company)
Saturday, June 20 – Gladys Knight
Sunday, June 21 – Bell Biv DeVoe
Special VIP tickets that provide festival goers access to up-close seating options, complimentary non-alcoholic beverages, restrooms and a cash bar are again available for purchase this year.
Local musicians are well-represented at GM River Days as well. Stages featuring local artists will ensure there is enough rock, pop, blues, indie rock, alternative, country and funk for everyone to groove to this weekend.
Other GM River Days highlights include ship tours from the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, a midway with rides and games, tours of a Tall Ship, food from local vendors, riverfront boat tours, strolling buskers, jet ski acrobatics and sand sculptures.
The event kicks off Friday at 11 a.m. and spans from the William G. Milliken State Park and Harbor to the Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority Terminal & Dock, just past the Renaissance Center. Festival hours are 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; and 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. on Sunday. The Conservancy charges a $3 admission fee before 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday (and $5 after 3 p.m.) to help underwrite programming and operational costs for the festival.
